Clothes That Charge Your Phone

Solar Fiber is a brand that designs a flexible photovoltaic fiber that converts sunlight into electricity by a special type of yarn. The latest design is the “solar shawl” that shows the amount of energy being made in real time. So far, prototypes only store and show storage of a small amount of energy, but Solar Fiber is working on bettering this defect. To be honest, the company's designs are not attractive and tend to take the technological factor into consideration before fashion. However, taking the technological factor into consideration, the idea is quite genius and can be a real help in the future when the idea is perfected.

Considering the fact that most Americans have clothes on their backs, if everybody could afford these special textiles we could be powering more than just our phones. For example, the power that has been stored over the course of a week could be automatically transferred to a power plant to promote the use of renewable energy. Another improvement is the ability to camouflage the special textile because there is a demographic of people whom do not like the extravagant clothing design used in prototypes.

There is also a company similar to Solar Fiber called Harvest. Harvest takes the energy used from workout machines, such as treadmills and elliptical trainers, and transfers them to a small cylindrical pod in the shape of a battery held in the machine. This pod can then be plugged in to one of your devices to charge it. This invention is far more practical and simple to use. In fact, these machines are already on the market and are being sold. Although the price is hefty, it will go down eventually when the idea becomes more popular and is normalized.
