Potential Drug Treatment From Artificial Lung Cancer Tissue
Professor at U of T Molly Shoichet has found the potential drug that could fight highly invasive cancers. This is such a big deal because the reason why cancer can be so powerful against the body is due to the cell invasion. Unlike other cancer drugs that are used around the world that really focus on killing the cancer cell, while Shoichets cancer drug will kill the cancer cell and prevent cell invasion They also internationally own making it a lot easier to distribute the drug they may have found.
The experiment they did that would mimic real lung cancer helped to collaborate with Professor Bill Stanford. They were able to conduct this experiment by using hydro gels to mimic the state the lungs would be in if it had cancer. This was so they could allow cancer cells and not healthy cells to invade the lungs.
After this experiment they viewed what happened close up. using the the hydro gel they were able to screen more than 800 drugs showing treatments that could fight other diseases other then just cancer.
This will help with more people knowing that it is possible to fight diseases that are frequently thrown at us which will help stop more diseases from spreading to people and save lives. The field of research will go farther with scientists finding cures to maybe every disease we know which will save so many lives as I mentioned before.
