Mixtures and solutions

Mixtures & Solutions
By Ethan Catoe

Mixtures can be known as a type of substance that is made by combining two or more materials that are different. For example, lemonade is a type of mixture. Lemonade can be categorized as a type of mixture because it doesn't have fixed proportions of ingredients in it. On the other hand if something like a chocolate chip cookie wouldn't be a type of mixture because it doesn't have a uniform composition and that also makes it a heterogeneous mixture.

A solution is made up of two or more substances mixed together. This substance cannot be separated easily and the combination of that creates a new substance. A solution is made when one substance dissolves then it fully mixes with another substance. The name of that solid that is generally known for dissolving is called the solute, but the liquid that does the dissolving is the solvent.
