A new type of Magnet


                      There is a new type of magnet that was discovered, a magnet that can enhance the performance of data storage technologies. This different magnet is based on singlets and in that, small, magnetic constituents align with each other to create a strong magnetic field. Although, this newly discovered magnet that is singlet based has fields that pop in and out of existence, which results in an unstable force, but is also more flexible than normal counterparts.
                                                                                                                            Andrew Wray, an assistant professor of physics at New York University  says "There's a great deal of research that goes into the use of magnets and magnetism to improve data storage technologies." He also says, "Singlet-based magnets have a more sudden transition between magnetic and non-magnetic phases. You don't need to do as much to get the material to flip between non-magnetic and strongly magnetic states, which could be beneficial for power consumption and switching speed inside a computer." So all this means that this magnet is much better than traditional magnets because it can hold more data and you don't have to do as much work perfecting it. Another big difference is that this kind of magnetism interacts with electrons very differently than traditional magnets, this magnet makes the electrons that are coming towards it interact very strongly instead of just passing through.
                                                                                                                       The idea for this kind of magnet has dated all the way back to the 1960s, and it was based on a theory that no one believed because the theory differed greatly from what had been known for so long about conventional magnets. A typical magnet contains a host of tiny "magnetic moments" that are locked into alignment with other magnetic moments, and they all act in unison so they can create a magnetic field. A thought that came up 50 years ago argued that a material that lacks magnetic moments might still be able to be a magnet.

This field will advance a lot because this new magnet can revolutionize how our data is held and stored forever. We can also experiment with this more because since no other magnet has the properties that this one has, it might be useful for many more things.
