Chemists create a hybrid organic-inorganic catalyst

Properties of an element do not have limitless potential and cannot be improved past a certain point. Because of this, scientists try to find new combinations of materials to expand its usefulness. Before now, all of these combinations have been with inorganic substances. However, this new hybrid has revealed a possibility that was not thought of before.

Recently, scientists synthesized metal complexes in the substance silsequioxane. This compound consists of  both an organic and an inorganic part.  Hybrid systems such as these can be efficient catalysts to separate a valuable substance from its original form. However, this new compound revealed a new use for hybrids.

The hybrid substance can help deliver drugs to areas of the body that are difficult to reach.

These compounds are made of metal centers and organic bridges that keep them together. Because of this special structure, scientists speculate that the compounds will have many interesting uses. One of the most important uses is the accurate delivery of drugs to specific parts of the body. The organic-inorganic hybrid will revolutionize modern medicine.

The next steps in this field is to find even more uses for these fascinating hybrids. If more investigating is done, who knows what else organic-inorganic compounds could be used for. This discovery could be very important in the future.
