Hidden compounds in many medications can trigger allergies
Every pill contains pharmaceutical drugs with some therapeutic effect on the body, especially many mixtures of inactive compounds added to make the medicine’s effectiveness boost up. Inactive drugs are pretty much harmless but many pills can cause allergic reactions or digestive problems to happen to the patients that are consuming the pills. Many researchers searched a database that contained around 42,000 recipes for oral medications; 92.8% of them contained at least one of 38 inactive ingredients that have triggered allergic reactions and 55 percent of pills contained at least one of a class of sugars called FODMAPs (Fermentable Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides, And Polyols) which can cause digestive problems for people who have irritable bowel syndrome.
Do healthcare providers consider inactive ingredients when prescribing medications? “If I’m prescribing something for someone who’s experiencing reflux, I will type, ‘Omeprazole, 20 milligrams once or twice a day.’ I don’t prescribe, ‘Omeprazole, the version that doesn’t have this and doesn’t have that.’” says Traverso, a health care productor “The healthcare provider doesn’t really know which formulation the patient is going to receive, because that’s generally governed by the pharmacy.” Drug companies are required to put up warning labels on pills with some extreme chemicals, like for example, peanut oil. Traverso also states, “A pharmacist isn’t likely asking the patient, ‘Do you have irritable bowel syndrome? Are you lactose intolerant?’” So neither does the doctor or the pharmacist know the effects it might have on the patient.
This “problem” that we have been configuring right now could later be solved in the future. It is true that many doctors and pharmacists don’t know about the ideal chemicals that are in the one's body, but what if the pills that they prescribe us have labels on them that particularly tell all the ingredients that are listed and used in the actual pill.
