Who had discovered magnetism?

In 1600, Gilbert published his book De Magnete. This books full English title is On the Magnet and Magnetic Bodies, and on the Great Magnet the Earth. This book had shocked many people, thinking they knew how a compass worked. The first paragraph of his book it states “…in the investigation of hidden causes, stronger reasons are obtained from sure experiments and demonstrations than from probable conjectures and the opinions of common philosophers.” He wanted the readers to know his experiments are accurate, not like some of the other philosophers and scientists.

Gilbert had created a model of magnetic earth. He had made it out of lodestone, now known as magnetite. He would place magnetic needles near the surface, and the result was exactly like a compass. The north magnetic pole was where the magnetic needle always pointed, and we still follow the same rules today. Therefore he determined the earth interior must be magnetic.
New discoveries have been experimented by many scientists and new technologies are being made. From discovering new kinds of magnets to turning heat into electricity with the help of magnetism. Using these experiments, fossil fuels can be eliminated and pollution can be decreased. Magnetism had such a big impact in 1600, and hopefully, it can have the same effect now.
