Waves Effects

Image
Waves effects There are different types of waves everywhere in the earth. The types of waves are radio waves, UV light, long radio waves, gamma rays, microwaves, infrared and x-rays. Wave have many advantages and disadvantages such as some waves impact on the human body. Each of the wave have different negative and positive effects. Each of the wave help us and also impact human body. We use radio waves every daily in our lives. Radio waves is  use for communication, television, cell phones and radios all receive radio waves and convert them to mechanical vibrations in the speaker to create sound waves that can be heard. Nowadays most of people use radio waves for communication. Microwave are the most most essential wave in nowadays because in every house people have microwave they used in their daily life. Visible light is what we all see today it include colors such as rainbow. visible light is also defined wavelengths that are visible to most human eyes. Ultraviolet a ty...

How Light Waves Impact Colors

Image
Sonali Purohit 11/5/2018--11/8/2018 Waves Blog Entry How Light Waves Impact Colors How do we see color? What makes color? Well, the answer is visible light, Visible light is a form of electromagnetic (EM) radiation, as are radio waves, infrared radiation, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays and microwaves. Generally, visible light is defined as the wavelengths that are visible to most human eyes. We see these waves as the colors of rainbow and each color has a different wavelength,  when all of the waves are seen together, it makes white. Our eyes have cones inside them to help us see the waves as color. Our eyes see the reflection of sunlight off of things around us. The color we see is the light reflected back to our eyes.     Cone-shaped cells in our eyes act as receivers tuned to the wavelengths in this narrow band of the spectrum. Other portions of the spectrum have wavelengths too large or too small and energetic for the biological limitations of our pe...

The ways Humans see Color Through Light Waves

Image
The ways Humans see Color Through Light Waves Sophie Boris 11/8/18 Humans see color all around us and it would be odd to think of the world without color, a world where rainbows are all just one singular shape and apples aren't green and red but just well colorless. Are eyes have learned to process “color” or light waves that are just simply bouncing off of he object. This might be confusing to think about that the idea of color doesn't really exist color is just the light waves that are reflect from the properties in that certain object. Color is just something that light waves makeup and your brain processes. When you are looking at an object it may appear like a color but thought process of how you see that color is really the interesting part. In the back of your eye there are cones, there are more in some people's eyes than others but they are all in a small part of the eye. When you look at this object the wavelengths of the object are what determines wha...

Gamma rays and how they affect life on Earth

Image
Ayad Alhazmi 11/8/2018 Gamma rays and how they affect life on Earth What we think the end of the world would look like is first is a meteor hitting Earth, then the cause of that colision made lava burst out. People frightened for there life, thinking they are going to died as children are crying helplessly. That is what you most likely think of the end of the world. But there are bigger threats like Gamma rays. Gamma rays have the shortest wavelength, so that means that gamma rays are the most energetic and could cause a lot of harm. But thankfully that there is an atmosphere to block the gamma rays from doing potential harm. Gamma rays are the hottest and the most energetic waves in the electromagnetic spectrum. The celestial bodies that produce them are neutron stars, supernovas, some parts of a black hole. In the article “Gamma-ray bursts may repeatedly wipe out life” Science life's article has some very interesting facts that I would want to share with you. gamma-...

How light travels through prisms

Image
Ellen Hederick November 7 2018 Waves Blog How light travels through prisms When light enters a prism the light bends. “White light entering a prism is actually made up of lots of different types of light”. Lights of different colors have different "wavelengths" (this is the distance between the peaks of two waves. When we see colors our eyes are sensing the different wavelengths and we see these different wavelengths as color. When white light enters a prism, each type of light within that white light (which is all the colors) are then all reflected at different angles because of all the different wavelengths. By doing this the light waves effectively separate all of the colors present in the white light into different bands (which we can see as the spectrum or the prism monochromator). The separation of visible light onto different colors is called dispersion. Refraction is a phenomenon that happens when a white beam of light passes through the interference betwee...

Sound Waves

Image
Sound Waves-By: Jillian Spiller What are sound waves? Sound waves are invisible waves that travel to let us be able to hear. They are like an echo in a way. If what I am saying is confusing, think of it as a ball. When you throw a ball, it vibrates, just like sound waves. Sound waves are also how you hear. Hearing is one of the most complicated things in the world. By hearing you need to be able to give and receive complex sound waves. The sound waves go into your ear and make your eardrum vibrate in such waves to make you understand what sound is being made. The sensitivity of hearing can be confusing. If the waves are not strong enough you can not hear them. If they are too loud they can hurt. If they are way too loud it can actually cause hearing damage, possibly even deafness. Sound waves are good though, do not worry! Without sound waves we would not be able to hear. This would lead to humans having no languages, and we would be no were as advanced as we are now. Sound waves...

How Do Microwaves Affect the Body?

Image
Zach Fluck      Waves Blog How Do Microwaves Affect the Body? We use microwaves on a daily base to cook an reheat food but can this common appliance have a negative health effect. A microwave does as it says and uses microwaves to cook food by “polar or electrically asymmetric molecules like water in food to rotate. This rotation produces thermal energy (aka heat) which then can quickly and nearly uniformly heat the food. However, does this have a negative effect on the user's health? Well, microwaves can “Microwaves can produce effects on your body instantly due to the 2.4 GHz radiation — the frequency of radiation emitted by microwave ovens. A study conducted by Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University found the levels of radiation emitted by a microwave affect both heart rate and heart rate variability.” This is just one of the ways microwaves can affect the body. To Conclude, the microwave may seem like a simple appliance to heat food, but there is ...

Healing Ultra Sound Waves

Image
Healing Ultra Sound Waves By Gerry Atkinson Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's are both mental illnesses that speed up the process of mental deterioration. Side affects of both diseases include loss of memory, anxiety, hallucinations, and a few other mental issues. Students at the Tohoku University of Japan have recently been studying the effect of Ultra Sound Waves on the brains of mice with said diseases.  When mice with diseases such as Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's had their whole brains exposed to ultrasound waves their cognitive dysfunction improved drastically. These Scientists may found a cure for diseases that affects 47 million people world wide! The research team discovered that when mice with dementia or Alzheimer's had improved cognitive function when their entire brains were exposed to low intensity ultra sound waves. Since the therapy requires no surgery the risks of this procedures are very minimal, meaning that if the procedure does in fact work, t...

Optical Illusions

Image
By Ines Miraka Optical Illusions Optical illusions are a type of neuroscience. They are never meant to trick the eye but the brain interprets it that way. Although our sensations feel accurate and truthful, they do not necessarily reproduce the physical reality of the outside world. Of course, many experiences in daily life reflect the physical stimuli that send signals to the brain. But the same neural machinery that interprets inputs from our eyes, ears and other sensory organs is also responsible for our dreams, delusions and failings of memory. Visual illusion is what makes the brain take in the images to have it make sense. “An illusion is proof that you don't always see what you think you do -- because of the way your brain and your entire visual system perceive and interpret an image.” This quote proves that your eyes and brain carry two different types of functions. Your eyes just see the object in front of you but, your brain actually interprets what it is and what...

A New Ultrafast Laser

Image
Marina W 11-8-18 Most modern ultrafast lasers emit pulses of light 300 million times a second. But in the age of new technology constantly being invented, a new ultrafast laser can now emit pulses of light 30 billion times per second, which is 100 times faster than the other lasers. How exactly does this work? Well, first understanding what an ultrafast laser is is important. An ultrafast laser emits short, rapidly fired pulses of light that usually last about tens of millionths of a billionth of a second. Scientists usually use a technique called mode locking, in which light waves bounce back and forth in a mirrored space in such a way that the waves build on each other and as a result produce rapid flashes of light. But the new method used to create the new ultrafast laser uses a more forceful approach by cutting up a continuous laser beam into different pulses. Ultrafast lasers can typically produce something known as a frequency comb, which is light made up of individual c...
